OXIGENTERAPY

Questions about oxygen therapy

How does mild oxygen therapy work?

During the treatment, you breathe in a higher concentration of oxygen at a pressure of 1.3-1.5 ATA in a special chamber, which increases the oxygen saturation of the blood and helps the cells to function.

How does mild oxygen therapy differ from traditional hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Mild oxygen therapy takes place at lower pressures (1.3-1.5 ATA), while traditional hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is performed at higher pressures (2-3 ATA), which is more effective but requires closer medical supervision.

Is mild oxygen therapy safe?

Yes, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) is a safe and non-invasive treatment. Because of the lower pressure used (1.3-1.5 ATA), it is less taxing on the body than high pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). It is well tolerated by most people and has minimal risks, such as mild ear congestion or temporary fatigue.

Are there side effects of oxygen therapy?

Mild oxygen therapy is usually safe, but in rare cases you may experience ear pressure, mild headache or temporary fatigue.

What should I wear during the treatment?

For the treatments we recommend wearing loose, light clothing that is easy to take off. The therapy takes place in a pressurised hyperbaric chamber; before the treatment all jewellery, contact lenses and other objects that may be sensitive to pressure changes have to be removed. It is important that the skin is clean, so avoid make-up, perfume and body lotion.

What to avoid before treatment?
  • Drinking alcohol and heavy foods: because of the pressure changes nausea or discomfort may occur, so it is best to avoid alcohol and heavy, fatty food immediately before the treatment.
  • Adequate hydration: drink enough water before the treatment, and it is worth having a light meal as well, so that you avoid dizziness.
  • Taking medicines: always follow your doctor's instructions regarding your medication, since the dosage of certain medicines may need to be adjusted during the treatment period.
What do I need to do immediately before the treatment?
  • Wash your face and hands to remove any cosmetics or cream.
  • Use the bathroom before the treatment, since mHBOT may stimulate kidney function, which can cause more frequent urination.
  • Stay calm! Deep, even breathing helps you relax and makes the experience more comfortable.
What can I expect during the treatment?

In the chamber you will breathe pure oxygen through a mask. The increased oxygen level saturates the bloodstream, promoting the healing of damaged tissues. The pressure in the chamber rises gradually, which may create a similar sensation to an aircraft taking off. This may cause mild discomfort in the ears, but it can easily be eased by yawning, swallowing or using the Valsalva manoeuvre.

How does it feel to be under oxygen therapy?

Most people find the treatment comfortable and relaxing. The most common sensation is a ringing in the ears, which can be caused by a change in pressure, similar to what you might experience when flying or deep diving. During treatment you can read, listen to music or even sleep.

What symptoms should I watch out for?
  • Dehydration: if you experience a dry mouth, increased thirst or a reduced amount of urine, drink more fluids.
  • Discomfort: if you notice any unusual sensation or pain during or after the treatment, contact your treating physician.
  • Ear problems: if ear pain occurs, use the pressure control valve of the chamber to stop the pressure increasing until your ears adjust.
How will I feel after the treatment?

After treatment, you may feel mildly dizzy or euphoric due to the increased oxygen levels, but this will pass quickly. A few minutes of rest may help you regain your normal feeling.

How does oxygen therapy help cell regeneration?

Cells depend on oxygen for energy. Oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen that can be taken up by the cells, which promotes the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which increases the energy levels in the cells. This improves cell function, stimulates tissue regeneration and reduces inflammation.

What effect does oxygen therapy have on brain function?

Increased oxygen levels can improve blood circulation to the brain, help nerve cell regeneration and support neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to adapt). Oxygen therapy is therefore being investigated as a potential adjunctive therapy for certain neurological conditions, such as brain trauma, stroke or cognitive decline.

What are the benefits of oxygen therapy for athletes?

For athletes, mild oxygen therapy can help improve performance, speed up muscle recovery and aid recovery from injury. Because oxygen improves cellular energy levels, muscles can work more efficiently and recover faster after training or competition.

Can mild oxygen therapy be used for recovery from surgery or injury?

Yes, mild oxygen therapy can speed wound healing, reduce inflammation and help minimise scarring. Some studies have shown that it improves collagen production and the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), thus aiding recovery from surgery and sports injuries.

Can oxygen therapy help with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia?

Yes, oxygen therapy can be useful for conditions where low cellular oxygenation and inflammation are involved. Patients with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia often experience improvements in energy levels, pain reduction and sleep quality as a result of oxygen therapy.

Can children use mild oxygen therapy?

Yes, it is safe for children and may even be recommended for certain conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or certain neurological problems. Of course, it is always recommended to consult a doctor before your child uses the therapy.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

Questions about red light therapy

What is red light therapy and how does it work?

Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-wavelength red and near-infrared light to stimulate cells. This light penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and stimulates the mitochondria (the energy centres of the cells), helping to regenerate cells, reduce inflammation and increase collagen production.

What are the health benefits of red light therapy?

Red light therapy is beneficial in many areas, including:

  • Muscle regeneration: for athletes it can help with faster recovery and improved performance.
  • Skin rejuvenation: it boosts collagen production, reduces wrinkles and makes the skin firmer.
  • Wound healing: it can speed up the healing of injuries and surgical scars.
  • Pain relief: it can ease muscle and joint pain and reduce inflammation.
  • Mood improvement: it may help ease depression and seasonal mood disorders.
How does red light therapy differ from infrared therapy?

Red light therapy uses visible red light (630–660 nm), while infrared therapy uses invisible near-infrared light (800–850 nm). Red light acts in the surface layers of the skin, while infrared also reaches deeper tissues, thus providing deeper regeneration.

Why is a red light therapy bed also called a collagen solarium?

Red light boosts collagen production, which makes the skin firmer and more youthful. Unlike traditional tanning beds, however, it does not damage the skin but, on the contrary, promotes its regeneration.

Can red light therapy help treat skin problems such as acne or wrinkles?

Yes. Red light stimulates collagen production, which makes the skin firmer and reduces wrinkles. In the case of acne, because of its anti-inflammatory effect, it may reduce the formation of spots and redness.

Can red light therapy reduce muscle and joint pain?

Yes, red light therapy stimulates circulation and reduces inflammation, which can help relieve muscle and joint pain. It can also be effective for arthritis, sports injuries and chronic pain.

Can red light therapy be used for recovery from injury or surgery?

Yes, red light promotes cell regeneration and reduces inflammation, which can lead to faster healing after injury or surgery.

Can red light therapy help with hair problems?

Yes. The red light stimulates the blood circulation in the scalp, thus promoting hair follicle regeneration and hair growth. It can be used as a complementary treatment for baldness or hair loss.

After how long can the effects of red light therapy be felt?

It depends on the individual, but in general:

  • Improvement in skin condition: with 4–6 weeks of regular treatment.
  • Pain relief: relief that can be felt after just a few treatments.
  • Wound healing: regeneration may speed up within just a few days.
For how long and how often is it worth using red light therapy?

The optimal treatment time and frequency depend on the purpose of the application. In general:

  • Skin rejuvenation and wound healing: 10–15 minutes, 4–5 times a week.
  • Reducing muscle and joint pain: 15–20 minutes, even every day.
  • For athletes, for recovery: 10–20 minutes after training.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Questions about massage therapy

What is air compression massage and how does it work?

Air compression massage is a therapy that uses inflatable cuffs or boots to gently squeeze and release the limbs. This wave-like movement helps lymphatic circulation, reduces swelling and improves venous return.

Who is air compression lymphatic massage recommended for?

For people who do sedentary or standing work, for athletes for recovery, for those struggling with varicose vein problems, for guests with lymphoedema, and for those who often experience leg swelling or fatigue.

What are the benefits of air compression massage?

It can help to reduce swelling in the feet, stimulate blood and lymph circulation, relieve heavy feet, aid detoxification and contribute to faster muscle recovery.

How strong is compression massage?

The strength of the pressure can be adjusted, so the experience can be personalised. At the right intensity it does not cause pain, only a pleasant pressure and a wave-like movement in the limbs.

Can air compression massage help with varicose vein problems?

Yes, it can help to reduce venous congestion and improve circulation, but it does not by itself eliminate varicose veins. It should be used as a complementary therapy alongside medical advice.

Can air compression massage be used after a flight or long journey?

Yes, it is excellent for reducing leg swelling after travelling and stimulating circulation.

How often can air compression massage be used?

The optimal frequency depends on individual needs. For athletes it is recommended after training; in the case of venous problems, regular use is recommended.

Can air compression massage be used for weight loss or cellulite reduction?

It is not consumed by itself, but it can improve lymphatic circulation and help remove toxins, which can contribute to skin firmness and reduce cellulite.

Are there any contraindications to air compression massage?

Yes, not recommended for deep vein thrombosis, severe heart disease, infections, open wounds or pregnancy. If in doubt, consult a doctor before use.

CRYOTHERAPY

Questions about cryotherapy

What is cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy means cold therapy, during which the body or a part of it is exposed to extremely low temperatures. This may be a whole-body treatment (cryo sauna) or local cooling. The aim is to speed up recovery, reduce inflammation and improve performance.

How does cryotherapy work?

During cryotherapy, the surface temperature of the skin is drastically reduced for a short time, causing the blood vessels to contract. After the treatment, blood circulation is increased and oxygen-rich blood flows to the muscles and tissues, helping regeneration and reducing inflammation.

What is a cryosauna?

The cryo sauna is a cabin in which the body (except the head) is exposed to extremely low temperatures for a short time. It generally operates at temperatures between -110 and -160 °C, and the treatments last 2–3 minutes.

What are the types of cryotherapy?
  • Whole-body cryotherapy (cryo sauna): cooling of most of the body in a special cabin, usually between -110 and -160 °C.
  • Local cryotherapy: targeted cooling of a specific body part.
What is the difference between local and whole-body cryotherapy?

Local cryotherapy targets only a specific part of the body, such as a sore knee or muscle, while whole-body cryotherapy affects the whole body and the entire circulatory system.

How does it feel to be in the cryosauna?

There is a cool, stinging sensation on the skin, but the dry cold makes it not as unpleasant as freezing in water. Most people find it refreshing and energising.

What to wear in the cryosauna?

Usually a swimsuit or underwear, plus protective gloves, thick socks and special slippers to protect the extremities.

Is cryotherapy safe?

Yes, if it is applied under the right conditions. The treatments last a short time (usually 2–3 minutes) and the body is not in direct contact with the cooling medium. There are contraindications, however, for example cardiovascular disease or extreme sensitivity to cold.

Are there side effects of cryotherapy?

Most people tolerate it well, but some may experience short periods of redness, numbness or sensitivity to cold. Very rarely, frostbite may occur if applied for too long or at too low a temperature.

Can cryotherapy be used to reduce chronic pain and inflammation?

Yes, many people use it to treat arthritis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries and other chronic pain. The cold reduces inflammation and the sensitivity of nerve endings.

What effect does cryotherapy have on metabolism and weight loss?

Cold therapy stimulates the metabolism as the body uses more energy to maintain heat. Some research suggests that regular cryotherapy can contribute to fat loss, particularly by activating brown fat.
