The healing power of oxygen – the scientific background to the physiological effects of mHBOT
Oxygen is the engine of our lives: every one of our cells needs it in order to produce energy and regenerate. But what happens if the body receives more oxygen than usual, under mild, safe overpressure?
The answer is given by mHBOT (mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy), that is, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which has been receiving increasing attention in scientific research in recent years.
Scientifically studied: oxygen supports the body at cell level.
The scientific basis: the mechanism of action of mHBOT
The Journal of Physiological Sciences A 2019 study ("Mild hyperbaric oxygen: mechanisms and effects", Harada et al.) examined in detail how mild pressure and a high oxygen concentration affect cells and tissues.
According to the research, during mHBOT the blood plasma also transports oxygen, not only the red blood cells. This allows the oxygen to penetrate more deeply into the tissues – reaching even those areas where circulation is limited.

What happens in the cells?
- Better mitochondrial function – the "power plants" of the cells work more efficiently.
- More ATP – the molecule that provides energy for every life process.
- More active regeneration – healing processes start more quickly.
The mild pressure (usually 1.2–1.3 atmospheres) does not put a strain on the body, so mHBOT can be used safely even in a home environment.
mHBOT increases mitochondrial function and ATP production, so cells are able to produce energy more efficiently.

The studied physiological effects of mHBOT
Based on the Harada study and further experiments, mild oxygen therapy may have a favourable effect on several organ systems:
- Energy and performance – the increased oxygen supply raises energy metabolism. This is why it is popular among athletes, alongside cryotherapy .
- Regeneration and healing – faster tissue repair, the subsiding of inflammatory processes.
- Mitochondrial health – more energy, better metabolism, a stronger immune response.
- Oxidative balance – according to researchers, in the long term mHBOT balances the antioxidant defences of the cells.
Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy not only delivers more oxygen into the body but also revives the energy production of the cells.

What does this mean in everyday life?
According to numerous studies and practical experience, regular oxygen therapy:
- may improve sleep quality,
- may reduce mental fatigue,
- may increase concentration and improve mood,
- may support physical and mental balance.

Oxygen therapy at home – science in a convenient form
According to research, the greatest advantage of oxygen therapy is regularity. The more often the body receives more oxygen, the longer-lasting the effect – which is precisely why it is such a convenience if the chamber is also available at home.
